BOSSES at Portsmouth International Port say business is booming as a result of increasing air fares.

The number of people booking cruises from the city is rising and managers predict record sales next year. Growth in the cruise market is helping to maintain jobs and visiting cruise ships are bringing more tourists to the city.

Captain Rupert Taylor, Portsmouth International Port Harbour Master, is looking forward to next year.

He said: ‘We’ve already got more firm bookings from cruise companies than we had at the same point a year ago with a number of additional enquiries leading us to expect a new record for the port in 2013.

‘As the number of people looking to take ‘‘no-fly’’ cruises has grown, our business has also increased, which is great news for the city and surrounding areas.’
