ROADWORKS in Portsmouth sparked misery for motorists as hundreds of people were caught up in traffic jams during rush hour.

Drivers experienced long delays with lengthy tailbacks on routes in and out of the city.

There were delays at roadworks on the Rudmore roundabout, Norway Road in Hilsea and London Road in North End.

Some motorists told of 45-minute journeys beteween Copnor Road and 1000 Lakeside.

Asked how long her journey took, @andreeatudor85 tweeted: ‘20-25 mins longer than usual. But for the people who use a bus is (sic) even worse.’

Reporter Ellie Pilmoor said: ‘I travelled from Farlington to Lakeside and it took me 20 minutes. There was just general traffic on the A27 slip road to come off at Hilsea.’

A Hampshire County Council update tweeted by @ROMANSE described very slow moving traffic on the A2047 London Road and Copnor road, and delays approaching the Rudmore roundabout due to roadworks.
