INVESTMENT from the private sector could be the answer to congestion problems on the A27 at Chichester.

Louise Goldsmith, leader of West Sussex County Council, has supported a call by Prime Minister David Cameron for an urgent increase in private investment to improve the road network.

The council has been pressing for years for improvements to the Chichester bypass.

Cllr Goldsmith said: ‘David Cameron’s wish for greater private sector funding to rebuild roads could be an important step towards unlocking improvements on the A27.

‘Public sector funding can never bring about all the major improvements along the road within the timeframe we need them, but investment from the private sector can.’
