A REDUCED train timetable for the Christmas period is being brought in as lines around London Waterloo undergo major engineering works.

On Christmas Eve, a revised service will run from 7pm with many late evening trains being cancelled or not running to their normal destinations. The South West Trains network will shut down completely by 11pm. No trains will run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

On Friday, December 27, a Saturday service will run, with a reduced service running between London and Portsmouth.

Services to Portsmouth via Eastleigh will only run between Basingstoke and Portsmouth Harbour.

On New Year’s Day, the train operator will be running a Sunday service.

The programme of work carried out over Christmas will include the replacement of switches and crossings which are more than 30 years old and are used to control train movements into the busiest part of Waterloo. The work will affect platforms one to nine which will be out of use while the track work takes place.

South West Trains is advising customers to plan ahead before using the railway over Christmas.
