CATAMARAN services to the Isle of Wight will continue to be disrupted until the end of the week as engineers replace an engine which caught fire.
A number of Wight Rider II services will be cancelled while the work is carried out on the catamaran.
As previously reported in The News, The Wight Rider II was travelling to Ryde on the Isle of Wight from Portsmouth at the beginning of the month when the fire broke out.
As part of the work another of the catamaran’s engines is being replaced as a precaution.
The Wight Rider I is running as normal and a charter vessel is replacing other Wight Rider II services.
A spokeswoman for Wightlink said: ‘The company is aware that there has been an engine defect.
‘Wightlink would like to take the opportunity to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by the current disruption to service on the Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde catamaran route.
‘To maintain better continuity of service, Wight Ryder II’s starboard engine is being replaced at the same time.
