LIFEBOAT crews rescued a stricken yacht in rough seas.

Solent Coastguard alerted the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs) to a 27ft yacht with engine failure off Gilkicker Point.

Other yachts had tried to tow the vessel but could not attach a line in the strong tide in the early afternoon on Monday.

The Gosport Rescue One inflatable lifeboat secured a line to the yacht and towed her back to Portsmouth Harbour.

On Sunday, Gafirs lifeboat crews were also called to escort a yacht which was taking on water.

At 8.30pm they began escorting the yacht from No Man’s Land Fort just outside Portsmouth Harbour.

The search and rescue helicopter was called to lower a water pump.

The lifeboat escorted the vessel to Gosport Marina for repairs to be carried out.
