COMMUTERS endured long delays this morning because of a signal failure between Portsmouth and Southampton.

No trains ran through Fareham after the signals went down between the town and St Denys, Southampton.

South West Trains cancelled at least 10 services while engineers fixed the signals.

It also affected routes to Waterloo via Basingstoke and those from Portsmouth to Cardiff.

The company said all services between Portsmouth and Southampton via Swanwick were suspended in both directions until the line reopened about 9am.

It warned that knock-on delays would continue throughout the morning.
