PROPOSALS to reduce speed limits on several major roads have moved a step further.

Leaders at Hampshire County Council have agreed to progress plans to slash speed limits on some roads, including parts of the A32 in Gosport, the B2150 in Waterlooville and the B2148 between Rowlands Castle and Emsworth.

As reported in The News, 48 routes have been identified for changes to the speed limit in the county, as well as five areas where the new speed limit would be advisory.

The scheme, costing £450,000, would come in between now and 2014.

Speed limits could be reduced from 40mph to 30mph on the A32 between Salterns Lane and the Rowner Road roundabout.

The plans will now go out for further consultation.

Councillor Mel Kendal, in charge of highways, said: ‘I have received a number of representations from elected members and others on different schemes in the report, and I have carefully considered these as well as the report itself in reaching my conclusions to approve the programme.’
