This is why city centre roads will be busy this weekend

Residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead and use public transport or walk or cycle where possible in the city centre locations over this busy weekend.

Visitors can also use the Portsmouth Park & Ride, located on the M275.

Those travelling with students to drop off and unload are advised to park in any of the city centre car parks as soon as they have finished unloading, to avoid causing congestion.

Local car parks can be identified on the council's website by searching 'car parks'.

Councillor Lynne Stagg, Portsmouth's Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transportation, said. '˜We are excited to welcome students to Portsmouth this weekend.

'˜We are expecting roads to be busier than normal and ask everyone to plan their journey and allow more time as high numbers of students travel to the city ready for the year ahead.

'˜We ask those who are dropping off, to unload their cars as quickly as possible and then move to a city centre car park.

'˜Portsmouth is a fantastic city which can easily be explored by foot.'

In addition, on Sunday September 16 part of Fratton Road will be closed to all traffic for the Big Local 'Fratton Family Festival'.

There will be no access to Fratton Road between Arundel Street and Selbourne Road for the duration of the day.
