A three-year-old boy wandered into a residential road and narrowly avoided being struck by an oncoming car.

The toddler was at home with his parents in Crasswell Street, Landport, when he escaped their eye and ambled out of the front door into the street at around 4pm yesterday afternoon.

A motorist travelling down the 20mph road spotted the child and stopped.

The driver then got out of the car and held the young boy’s hand before calling police officers and scouting the area to see if his parents were about. After a few minutes the toddler, who was unharmed, was reunited with his dad who rushed out of the house towards him.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘Officers attended the scene to ensure the driver, child and parents were okay and offered up advice.’
