A MAN died after being hit by a train at Bedhampton railway station.

The man was struck by a train that was on its way to Portsmouth at about 6am on Saturday.

All train services through the area were suspended while emergency services attended the incident.

The station was cordoned off by police while the man’s body was recovered.

British Transport Police are now investigating, but are not treating the incident as suspicious.

A spokeswoman said: ‘BTP, Hampshire police and ambulance attended the line at Bedhampton Railway Station, West Street, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

‘Officers attended the incident, which was reported to police at 6.02am and it is being treated as non-suspicious.

‘BTP are currently seeking to identify the person and next of kin.

‘A file is being prepared for the coroner’s office.

‘This was the 5.38am Barnham to Portsmouth service.’
