South West Trains has announced that no trains will run until 7.30am tomorrow.

Due to severe weather, which has seen fallen trees and flooding, South West Trains has said all trains will run tomorrow from 7.30am.

This will allow safety checks to be done on lines across the south to check for damage and allow time for repairs.

Maintenance teams are working through the night to carry our repairs and clear lines.

Around 35 trees have come down on the South West Trains network today, with flooding at several sites. Power supply problems have also affected signalling.

A spokesman for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance said: ‘The past 24 hours have been very difficult for our customers and we are sorry they have faced significant disruption.

‘It has also been a tough time for our frontline teams across the network who have been working extremely hard in difficult conditions to keep trains running.

‘Weather forecasters expect the worst of the extreme conditions to be over by the early hours of the morning, allowing us to run trains that check the lines are safe for passenger services.

‘We would like to thank customers for their patience while we carry out this essential work, which will mean a later start than normal for our services.

‘We are confident that we will be able to get all of our passengers where they want to be on our network so they can spend Christmas with family and friends.’

Ticket flexibility has been increased for today and tomorrow to allow passengers to change their time of travel if necessary.

Earlier this evening, signalling problems caused delays for people travelling from Portsmouth Harbour, to Havant or Fareham.

Trains running between these stops are either being delayed or suspended.

The signalling equipment in Portsmouth is currently not working but replacement road transport has been supplied.

These services are running between Havant and Portsmouth Harbour in both directions until further notice.

Earlier today, due to strong winds, a tree had landed on tracks in Haslemere blocking trains from Guildford to Portsmouth.

This has been cleared.

South West Trains is advising customers to travel only if it’s absolutely necessary and to check for any updates before travelling.
