A THREE-month trial will start to open the Yew Tree Drive bus gate in Whiteley.

Hampshire County Council will begin the trial on Monday and it will be open to all vehicles apart from heavy-goods vehicles.

As previously reported in The News, a decision was made in June last year to go ahead with plans to open the bus gate after overwhelming support for the bollards to be lowered to allow better access to the north of Whiteley.

During the trial, a number of surveys and counts will take place to determine the impact of the bus gate opening in the surrounding area. It has been opened after a number of mitigation measures were put in place including crossing points.
