IT TOOK police and recovery experts almost two hours to free a lorry trapped under a bridge.
Onlookers cheered as the small heavy goods vehicle was released at 7.45pm on Monday after a Boarhunt truck used its winch to pull it loose.
The white Daf lorry became lodged under the footbridge over Alec Rose Lane, in Portsmouth city centre, at around 6pm. Police cordoned off the bridge and the road while they organised its release and made sure the bridge was not seriously damaged.
Vicki Tupper, 39, of Essex Road, Southsea, said: ‘I heard the smash but was surprised to see what had happened. It’s not every day you see a truck trapped under a bridge.’
