MOTORISTS are being asked to take drive with care on the A3 after garden turf came off the back of a trailer.

The grass turf came off the trailer being pulled by a vehicle on the A3 southbound between Petersfield and Butser Hill.

Police were called at about 9.30am as the man driving the vehicle wanted to retrieve the turf.

The turf is mainly in the overtaking lane, but traffic is still flowing normally.

A Hampshire police spokeswoman said: ‘He was trying to retrieve the turf from the carriageway but has been advised not to.’

Police are still determining whether to temporarily close a lane so the turf can be collected.
