A girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a police car.

The accident happened on the A32 Gosport Road, Fareham, near the junction with Redlands Lane and the Esso garage just after 4pm today. The girl was crossing the road.

Police said that the car had its siren and blue lights on at the time as it was responding to an incident. A spokesman said the car was making its way through heavy traffic at the time of the accident.

Paramedics were called and treated the young woman at the scene before taking her to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

South Central Ambulance Service said she had suffered a ‘non-life-threatening’ head injury.

Officers from the Road Policing Unit are investigating the incident.

They are appealing for any witnesses to call Sergeant Shaun Hopkins at Havant RPU on 101.
