A VAN driver drove off after being involved in a collision on the M27 westbound this morning.

The incident involved a silver and a white transit van between junctions 12 and 11 ant 7.21am.

The silver van ended up in the central reservation while the white van drove onto the hard shoulder.

Police say the driver of the white van failed to stop and drove away from the scene.

The driver of the silver Ford Transit van was treated at the scene by paramedics but was not seriously hurt and did not require hospital treatment.

Lane three of the highway was closed due to debris and fuel spillage.

The lane was reopened at 8.04am and the Highways Agency was called to assist at the scene.

Motorists from the A27 faced delays of up to 30 minutes following the incident and traffic is still heavy in the area.

Police are asking anyone who saw the collision to call 101.
