TRAVEL AND WEATHER: Light clouds and breeze roll into Portsmouth

DRIVERS are being warned to take extra care on roads around Rowlands Castle because of flooding.

Rising groundwater levels mean some streams and fords are now bursting their banks.

Lisa Walker, clerk to Rowlands Castle Parish Council, said that Chalton Road, Idsworth Road and Woodberry Lane are flooded and only passable with care and at drivers’ own risk.

She said: ‘The heavy rainfall over the last few weeks has meant that both the Idsworth and now Chalton lavants have risen.

‘Some of the water is being channelled via ditches, but much remains on the surface and is flooding local roads.

‘We anticipate Finchdean Road may suffer flooding in the near future if the lavants continue to rise.’
