A 68-YEAR-OLD woman was taken to hospital with two broken legs after being trapped under the wheels of a van for more than half an hour.

The woman, thought to be from the local area, was run over by a Ford Transit van as she crossed Fawcett Road, Southsea, using a walking frame today.

Emergency services were called to the incident, outside the Fawcett Inn, at 1.15pm and police officers closed the road straight away.

Two fire crews from Southsea attended the incident. It took them just over half an hour to free the woman using hydraulic equipment to lift the van.

Paramedics then assessed her on the scene and dressed her legs in splints before taking her to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance.

The road was reopened by police officers at 2.20pm.
