A WOMAN suffered life-threatening injuries after her car crashed into a barrier and overturned on the A3.

Police were called to the accident on the northbound carriageway near Buriton at around 11.35am yesterday. The road at Queen Elizabeth Country Park was closed whilst an air ambulance helicopter landed before taking the female driver to Southampton General Hospital.

A male front-seat passenger was seriously injured and airlifted to hospital.

No other vehicles were involved. Yesterday afternoon road closures remained in place.

In a statement Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘The A3 at Queen Elizabeth Country Park was closed following a single-vehicle collision. The crash happened on the northbound carriageway when, for reasons yet to be established, a car collided with the roadside barrier.

‘The southbound carriageway was closed to allow for the air ambulance to land. Diversions were in place but motorists were advised to avoid the area where possible.’
