TWO charities are £5,000 better off following the success of a supermarket’s community support scheme.

The initiative has been running for a year in The Southern Co-operative’s two stores in St George’s Square and High Street, Bishop’s Waltham.

Shoppers chose Bishop’s Waltham in Bloom and Swanmore Pre-school to raise the money for.

Manager of Swanmore Pre-school Debbie White said: ‘It is fantastic and will enable us to create a nice all-weather quiet area outside for the children to enjoy.

‘We are a registered charity and community-run preschool, relying on fundraising to buy new equipment, so this has been such a great opportunity for us.’

Bishop’s Waltham in Bloom is run mainly by volunteers and undertakes many activities throughout the year to improve the appearance of the town.

Chairman Martin Livermore said: ‘The generosity of The Southern Co-operative and its customers is hugely appreciated.’
