BANTERING broadcasters Mike Parry and Mike Graham are taking their show off the airwaves and bringing it to the big stage.
The duo, best known for their comedic bickering on TalkSPORT radio, are looking forward to sharing their tales with their largest crowd yet at Portsmouth Guildhall.
Mr Parry, a former columnist for The News, lives in Gosport and said the show will be akin to a homecoming.
He said: ‘When we first started doing gigs to small crowds in London we never thought that we would end up playing in Portsmouth Guildhall.
‘It’s a legendary place. To think we will be on the same stage that Paul McCartney has been on, well we are thrilled.’
The two men, who have both had long careers as journalists, first met 30 years ago in New York when they were working as correspondents for British tabloids.
Their paths were to cross again when they were given a show on TalkSPORT radio where they built up a fanbase due to their on-air chemistry and humorous debates.
After their witty banter proved a hit on the airwaves, they decided to play a few smaller stage shows last year.
As these proved successful, and went down well with the audiences of around 50 people, they are now looking forward to playing bigger venues, including up to 500 people at the Guildhall.
Mr Parry said: ‘It just works. The thing is the audience can tell that the bickering is full of affection but in a way that rips into each other. We’ve had a lovely response from the audience so far.’
The show, which covers all topics, will be coming to Portsmouth on Saturday, May 30 – the same day as the FA Cup final.
Mr Parry said: ‘Come down and enjoy the show. Portsmouth is a great city. It has taken a few punches with the shipbuilding leaving and with the times that Portsmouth FC has been through but it is a great location.
‘I don’t want people to forget that and we’re going to try to add to its culture, and I say that tongue in cheek.’
And Mr Parry said he hopes that their comedy will take Portsmouth FC fans’ mind off their recent performance.
He said: ‘We’ll help the fans forget about the misery of being as far away from the cup final as I am from Broadway.’
Tickets cost £22.50. Go to portsmouthguildhall.org.uk or call 0844 847 2362 to book. The show starts at 7pm.
There are two other upcoming dates – June 7 at St James Theatre in London and June 27 at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester.
