A PROJECT documenting the history of women’s activism in Portsmouth is under way after a successful Heritage Lottery Fund bid.
Dr Sue Bruley, Dr Laurel Forster and Dr Terese Jonsson from the University of Portsmouth are on a mission to record the history of 50 of the city’s unsung female heroes – with the researchers looking to speak to people in the community.
Dr Sue Bruley said: ‘The impact of feminist movements in Britain since the 1960s has been enormous.
‘We need to record these changes for women and society at a local level. This is particularly so in Portsmouth with its distinct naval heritage.’
The project will be launched on Saturday, October 20 from 10am-3pm at the university library.
The event is free, but bookings are required.
