A MAN is being treated in hospital for head injuries following an assault at The Hard in Portsmouth.
Police say a 23-year-old man was assaulted by another man, who was with a woman, in an ‘unprovoked incident’ in the area at 12.30am this morning.
The victim is being treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.
An area of The Hard was cordoned off this morning to allow for forensic examination of the scene.
Local businesses said a police officer has been standing guard by police tape around the slipway opposite The Ship Anson pub.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with information.
They say the attacker was white, in his 20s or 30s, had dark hair and was wearing a grey hooded top with yellow high visibility trousers. He also a dark coloured mountain bike with him.
The woman with him was in her early 30s, wore a brown jacket and also had a bike.
Detective Constable Nicola Rose said: ‘We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the assault and has not yet spoken to us to come forward.
‘Can you help us identify the offender?
‘He was with a woman and both were in possession of bicycles. The Hard would have been busy at this time of night as people visited nearby bars and clubs.’
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information should contact the Eastern Investigations Team at Fratton police station on 101.
