A SCHOOLBOY has been left critically ill after he was hit by a car.

The incident happened at 8am this morning on Gravel Hill in Swanmore.

The 11-year-old was taken to Southampton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police are looking for witnesses and say the boy was involved in a collision with a red Toyota Yaris in Hill Pound.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said it was called to the scene at 7.59am and sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance and ambulance officers.

The air ambulance was called and used to fly the boy to the hospital, where he is currently being treated.
