UPDATE: Solent Wheel to reopen tomorrow after woman and child left trapped on ride

Portsmouth's Solent Wheel will reopen tomorrow - two days after a boy and his grandmother had to be rescued from the fairground ride.

Fire crews were called to Clarence Pier yesterday to free the pair, who were stuck in their pod near the top of the wheel.

The wheel was closed for a health and safety investigation to be carried out.

But its owners, Jill and Jimmy Norman, have confirmed it will now reopen tomorrow.

Mrs Norman said: ‘Due to a technical fault on the computer systems this caused the ride to shut down.

‘The fault has now been located and the ride will reopen by tomorrow.’

The wheel is due to be dismantled in October and moved to another resort.

It will be open daily until September 30.

The 35ft tall wheel, which cost £750,000, was officially opened in March.
