A COUNCILLOR has described two burglars as ‘cowardly’ for stabbing a 74-year-old pensioner in his home.

Councillor Yahiya Chowdhury, ward councillor for Charles Dickens, also said police must do all they can to help the community following the attack in Sydenham Court, in Berkshire Close, Landport.

Two burglars were in the communual lounge in the court and were spotted by the victim.

The 74-year-old bravely went to challenge what he thought was one offender, when a second attacked him from behind and stabbed him in the back.

Cllr Chowdhury said: ‘It is cowardly for two men to attack someone in their home like that – it’s very sad for the community.

‘The shock will effect him mentally and I want the police to make sure they do all they can to protect him and also find these men.

‘The police must also give reassurance to the community that this will not happen again and security will be increased.’
