JULY was the busiest month for Portsmouth & Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards this summer with 26 incidents during the period.

The most common cause of the 73 operations between May and September were minor abrasions or bruising, cuts or lacerations, head injuries, medical condition and insect and fish stings.

Eight people needed further medical attention with five of those requiring hospital treatment after incidents on beaches.

September 22, the day of Southsea Triathlon, was the busiest day for volunteers, according to new statistics.
