ALMOST 300 people got into the VE Day spirit at The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre’s Museums at Night party.
The free celebration took VE Day as its theme and included authentic games from the era, like Meccano and Mixbrix, live music and 1940s-style dance lessons.
Party-goers dressed up in vintage outfits and were able to explore authentic 1940s items from the museum, meet with local historians to investigate family stories from the war, and watch a new theatrical piece from the Havant Drama Club.
Festivities began with a variety of different activities, including having hair and make-up done in the 1940s style.
Then they moved into the theatre for two live music sets from The Dave Baker Project, interspersed with dance lessons demonstrating authentic 1940s steps, such as the Lindy Hop, by local dance group Swing4All.
Roger Harrison, chairman of the board of trustees for The Spring, said: ‘I cannot remember an evening this year that was more obviously enjoyed by those present.
‘There were great activities, games, music, food, drink, clothes – a triumph!’
