Visitors to Portsmouth dockyard festival asked to use public transport

VISITORS going to the Victorian Festival of Christmas are encouraged to use public transport to avoid traffic queues.

Portsmouth City Council is asking people travelling into the city for the event at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to avoid using their own cars.

In addition to existing bus services, extra buses will run from the park-and-ride terminal at the M275 entrance.

There will also be a minibus shuttle service between the Hayling Ferry and Bransbury Park to connect event goers to the Hard Interchange. It will run between 10am and 6pm.

Councillor Simon Bosher, cabinet member for traffic and transportation, said: ‘Last year’s Victorian Festival saw thousands of visitors travel into Portsmouth.

‘We want to ensure they have a positive experience of travelling to and from the event, while ensuring residents can continue to move around the city with ease.

‘Our excellent public transport will help alleviate congestion allowing people more time to enjoy the festivities.’

The three-day festival is on December 1 until December 3.
