MEMBERS of a mental health support group have spruced up a submarine.

Give, Gain and Grow, run by Gosport Voluntary Action, joined staff at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport to prepare HMS Alliance ahead of its opening weekend.

The Second World War submarine, which is the subject of a £3.4m Heritage Lottery Fund grant to refurbish it for public viewing, is open this weekend.

It has been closed to the public since January to allow restoration work to the outer casing.

It is part of a three-year project to bring her back up to top condition for education and public viewing.

The restoration is due to finish in spring 2014.
