A PET owner has warned people to be responsible when fishing in a lake after a fish hook got caught on his dog’s lip.
Raymond Caddy, from Titchfield, found his French bulldog Lenny trapped at Brownwich Pond after the hook got stuck.
The one-year-old dog needed treatment from the vets following the incident earlier this week.
Mr Caddy, who lives next to the pond, said he has no idea how Lenny got stuck but thinks the fisherman cut the line and left him there trapped.
‘We live on a farm that borders the pond and our two dogs like to run around the site,’ he said.
‘On Tuesday, they were barking to be let out.
‘A little while later, we called them to come back in the house but Lenny did not return.
‘We started looking for him and after an hour, we found him at the fishing lake around 8.30pm.
‘He had a hook in his mouth and you could see where someone had cut the line. There was about 4ft of line and a lead weight still attached.
‘I know Lenny would have been trying to come back to us while we were calling him but he couldn’t because of the hook and line.’
Lenny is recovering from what happened since having the hook removed although Mr Caddy said he was left a little bit shaken.
He added this is the second time this has occurred and wants to remind people who use Brownwich Pond to take care and be responsible while fishing.
He said: ‘I just want people to be responsible when using this site. We don’t know how it happened but it was irresponsible of the fisherman who left him there, it is awful.
‘He knew he had cut the line and left Lenny there rather than trying to help or find us.
‘He is only a year old so he is a little bit playful but he didn’t deserve to be left. It is cruel.’
The pond, off Brownwich Lane, is a popular site for fisherman for its carp.
