WATCH: Police chase man wanted for kidnap and robbery through Gosport

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of a several offences including kidnap and robbery after police chased a 4x4 through Gosport.

The 36-year-old man from West Yorkshire was arrested on Eastbourne Avenue after leading police on a chase through roads in Gosport.

One resident saw two police cars drive after the 4x4 on Britannia Way this morning just before 11am.

The 23-year-old said: '˜I could hear the sirens in the distance for over 10 to 15 minutes, they were getting louder by the minute.

'˜I could tell they were just around the corner so I went to look out of the window. That's when I heard a car driving with a flat tyre and the engine revving.

'˜As they drove past I could see the smoke coming from the rear right wheel and the car looked like it was leaning to one side. I was initially shocked, it is a quiet road with hardly any traffic.'

The vehicle was later abandoned on Fairhome Close.

A police spokesperson said: '˜We can confirm that officers carrying out enquiries in relation to a number of investigations made an arrest in Gosport this morning.

'˜We followed a vehicle, which was subsequently abandoned on Fairhome Close at around 10:50am.

'˜A 36 year-old man from West Yorkshire was later arrested on Eastbourne Avenue on suspicion of offences including: kidnap, robbery, false imprisonment, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and two driving offences.

'˜He remains in custody.'
