GROUNDWATER levels have reached a record high.

Portsmouth Water is reporting that groundwater at Idsworth, near Rowlands Castle, is at a record level because of heavy rain so far throughout 2014.

A statement said: ‘Groundwater levels have now dramatically recovered to new record levels.

‘At the beginning of January, levels were approximately 2m above the long-term average and now, due to the exceptional rain, are 10.5m above them.’
