ORGANISERS of Gosport Waterfront Festival say more than 25,000 people poured through the gates of Walpole Park to make the most of the four-day event.

And a swollen crowd at last night’s finale gig proved just how popular the festival was.

Thousands gathered to watch performances from the likes of Pick Floyd, Bubblegum and Cheese, and Glam City Rockers yesterday at the annual event which costs just £1 to attend.

Organisers believe it was their varied line-up, together with the timing of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, that brought out the crowds.

Dale Fletcher, one of the event’s organisers, said: ‘People are feeling patriotic and want to come out and celebrate because of the Jubilee, and we gave them the opportunity to do that.

‘I think people like the fact that it’s a good quality event with great bands for just £1. Where else can you get that?’

He added: ‘We’ve been incredibly impressed with all the help we’ve had and want to say a massive thank you to everyone involved with the running of the festival.’
