Have your say

WE ARE expecting a really big turnout to our beach clean in Lee-on-the-Solent.

More people are coming on board – we’ve got about four youth groups joining us.

That includes the Junior PCSOs, the Sea Scouts, the local church youth group and possibly another youth club.

There will be young people involved individually but four groups will be the most we’ve ever had in one go.

We get regular turnouts from businesses like McDonald’s and Boeing, so there is ongoing support.

The whole reason for this event originally was because we saw last summer the way our beach was left after a sunny day.

When it was a hot day last summer we went down to the beach and picked up rubbish from the sunbathers.

You could see it was pricking their conscience as they were handing their rubbish to us.

We did also get some negative responses from some young people being provocative.

We were so upset to see the state of the beach – it was absolutely horrendous one day.

People had just left the beach and all their bags, bottles and cans.

They obviously thought the council was going to come and taken them away.

But before that happens the birds have got them all over the place and the tide has dragged them out to sea.

We’re trying to encourage people to take it to the bin themselves.

This special event will try to publicise it to a wider audience.

We’re going to make it a bit more fun and have games and awards for the kids.
