Five days of snow warnings issued for Hampshire by Met Office

The Met Office has issued a number of snow warnings for Hampshire over the coming days.

Yellow alerts are in place for the county from Saturday until Wednesday.

Snow is forecast for Portsmouth on Sunday morning and now weather warnings are in place for February 8, 9 and 10.

The first warning covers the east of the county, including Petersfield, Basingstoke, Aldershot and Farnborough, comes into force at 11pm on Saturday and runs until 6am on Monday.

On its website, the Met Office warns: ‘Heavy snow at times will bring some travel disruption.

‘Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers.

‘Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

‘Some rural communities could become cut off.

Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.’

A new warning comes into force on February 8 covering Portsmouth and the surrounding towns, including Fareham, Havant, Gosport and Waterlooville, and lasts until noon on Wednesday.

The Met Office warns: ‘Snow showers may lead to disruption to travel in places.

‘Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Small chance of longer travel delays in places with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.

‘Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

‘Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

‘There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off.

‘There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.’

Snow is forecast to fall from 6am until noon on Sunday in Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and Havant as well as all day in Waterlooville.
