Forecaster predicts widespread snow this month - but here's what the Met Office sayÂ

Long-term weather forecasting company WeatherAction is saying that temperatures will plummet in the coming weeks. 

Which would comes as a shock to the system, with unseasonably warm weather being seen across Portsmouth in recent weeks. 

With highs of 18C forecast for Sunday in the city. 

WeatherAction's Piers Corbyn told The Express: '˜We are expecting some quite severe snowfall before the end of this month and it will not just be confined to the far north, this could reach parts of the Midlands or even further south.

'˜This spell of very cold weather looks like bringing substantial snow to a more widespread area of the country than people would necessarily expect at this time of year.' 

However the Met Office have disputed this saying that they haven't issued any forecasts for '˜widespread snow' at this point. 

A Met Office spokesman explained: '˜There is an increased chance of some snow in the north of the UK and particularly higher ground in Scotland in late October/early November.

'˜That's not unusual for this time of year. We haven't issued any forecast for widespread snow at this point.' 

Earlier this year one weather forecaster warned that the UK could see '˜four months' of snow this winter. 

Exacta Weather are predicting that we will see the coldest winter for a decade. 

The forecasters are warning that there could be four months of snow from November onward. 

The arctic conditions could match the winter of 2010/11 when much of the country saw huge snowfalls, Exacta Weather has warned. 

And they say that the outlook is already pointing to chances of a White Christmas. 

The Beast from the East brought snow to Portsmouth and the surrounding area earlier this year. 

Heavy snow showers in March caused major travel disruptions in the city.
