Met Office issues warning of winds up to 80mph in Portsmouth

The Met Office have issued a yellow warning of wind for the area up until 9am.

Southwesterly winds are said to have increased last night bringing gusts of 50 to 60mph on the south coast, with a risk of reaching 70 to 80mph.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: ‘Please be aware of the risk of damage to trees and disruption to transport, and of large waves coming onto sea fronts.

‘A deep low coming northeast across England will carry a swathe of strong winds from the English Channel inland.

‘Even at this range there is uncertainty about the depth and track of the low, and therefore the strength of the winds.’
