Met Office says gusts of up to 80mph could hit Portsmouth tomorrow

The Met Office has extended a weather warning for high winds in Portsmouth issued for this week.

Forecasters had warned people in coastal areas to expect gusts of up to 80mph throughout Friday, but have now said the high winds could have an effect on Saturday as well.

The high winds are caused by a low pressure system which has been moving quickly across the Atlantic to the UK this week.

The Met Office said some travel disruption is possible while some trees may be bought down.

The warning covers the Portsmouth area, as well as the rest of Hampshire and most of the south east.

The weather warning is in place from 11am on Friday to 3am on Saturday.
