Severe weather warning for rain issued for Portsmouth

People in Portsmouth are being warned to expext high levels of rainfall and surface water flooding this weekend.

The Met Office has put out a severe weather warning for rain for London and the south east, and have forecasted heavy rain for most of Sunday.

A vigorous area of low pressure is expected to move north east across the south of the UK, with gusts of 45-55 mph possible inland.

Forecasters have also said 20-33 mm of rain could fall within a six to 12 hour period, and although these amounts of rain are not unusual they are more dangerous when combined with gales.

On their website the Met Office said: ‘Please be aware of the risk of difficult driving conditions due to localised surface water flooding and possible debris from trees.’

Conditions are expected to improve later on Sunday.

It comes a day after weather alerts for flooding and high winds were put out for Portsmouth.
