SNOW UPDATE: Weather warning upgraded to '˜amber' as heavy showers expected tomorrow

The Met Office's snow weather warning has been increased from '˜yellow' to '˜amber', with showers expected tomorrow.

A spell of heavy snow is expected to move across the south of the Uk through tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Some places could see large build-ups of ice overnight into Friday, and will be accompanied by strong winds coming from the east.

Travel and public transport disruption is expected, and hundreds of schools across the country have already been closed.

The amber warning, covering the wider Portsmouth area, is in place from 12pm on Thursday until 8am on Friday.

The Met Office said 10-20cm could fall in many parts of the south.

An amber warning means there is an ‘increased likelihood’ of bad weather affecting people.

Yesterday, light snow flurries fell in Portsmouth as temperatures dropped below freezing.
