What a scorcher! Southsea blazes in the sunshine

THOUSANDS of people headed to the seaside over the weekend to soak up the sunshine on what was the hottest day of the year so far.

In Southsea the beaches were packed with sun-worshippers lapping up the warmth in temperatures which reached a high of just below 23 degrees – but felt much warmer. The highest recorded temperature in the UK was St James’ Park, London on Sunday which reached 27 degrees.

But be prepared for quite a dramatic change over the next few days.

Ellie Creed, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: ‘It’s been a lovely weekend with a high in Gosport of 22.6 degrees.

‘It probably felt warmer because of the warm on-shore breeze coming in from France.

‘Unfortunately, it’s not going to last.

‘In Portsmouth we’re expecting some rain overnight.

‘This will become quite heavy on Monday and throughout Tuesday.’
