THIS WEEK IN 1987: City sniper hunted after rifle attack

A gunman was being hunted in Portsmouth police today after a terrified schoolboy was shot with an air rifle.

Twelve-year-old Robert Singleton suffered bruising and was badly shaken after being hit in the back by a pellet.

Police also received other reports of gunshots in the Buckland area.

One man who had a close shave told police he heard a shot ring out and sensed a pellet ‘whizzing past’ him.

Police believed that the incidents were linked.
