THIS WEEK IN 1987: Youngsters quizzed in arson probe

Five youngsters were helpnig detectives with their inquiries following an alleged arson attack at a Paulsgrove School.

Windows were damaged at Hillside Middle School, Allaway Avenue during the weekend.

But police also found a number of small fires had been lit in the classrooms when they entered the building.

Paint had also been poured in a school office.

A spokesman for Cosham CID said: ‘It was more mindless vandalism than arson, but a number of fires had been lit – including in some desks.

‘Apart from the windows the damage was fairly minimal, and of nuisance value.’
