THIS WEEK IN 1988: Deacon takes the helm at Fratton Park

John Deacon took total control of the running of Fratton Park as he demoted the man who had been the club's vice-chairman and company secretary.

Mr Deacon, angered by the administrative foul-up which had left Pompey facing a High Court winding-up, which cost him £750,000 to forestall, moved to demote his long-time accountant, 49-year-old John Parkhouse.

Mr Parkhouse would instead go on to oversee and work from Moneyfields sport and social club at Copnor.
