THIS WEEK IN 1994: Trip to shops turns into vicious dog attack
The parents of a Paulsgrove toddler who was savaged by an Alsatian spoke of their horror after seeing the youngster's torn and bloodied face.
Two-year-old Alfie Wake, pictured, needed surgery after he was attacked outside a Paulsgrove newsagents.
Alfie’s grandfather, Peter Littlefield, who saw the youngster minutes after the attack said he could have been killed.
‘It doesn’t take many bites from a dog that size to cause fatal wounds.
‘He’s a lucky lad – higher and it could have been his eye and lower it could have been his throat.’
Alfie’s mum Tina Wake said: ‘It looked as if half his face had gone. It was ripped and blood was pouring out of it.’
Alfie later recovered after being treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
