FIREFIGHTERS were called to deal with a roof fire.

The incident in East Street, Selsey, West Sussex, happened at 6.30pm last night.

One fire engine with an aerial ladder platform from Southsea was sent to help crews from Selsey.

Residents inside the house were evacuated and a sheet was put over the part of the roof which was badly damaged.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Southsea crew manager Jasper Taylor said: ‘When we arrived the roof was in a fairly bad condition.’
