A TEAM of swimmers went an extra 62 miles at a leisure centre to raise money for charity.

Forty three swimmers took on the swimathon at Westgate leisure centre in Chichester.

It was part of a swimathon weekend taking place across the country to support Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief.

Councillor Eileen Lintill, who oversees the council-run centre, said: ‘It was the first time we have run the event at Westgate and we are really pleased with how it went and hope to repeat the event next year.

‘Swimmers completed various distances ranging from the 48 length Sport Relief mile to the 150 length swim for Marie Curie.

‘There was some great feedback.’

More than 26,000 swimmers took part in the national event last weekend.
