JD Wetherspoon has a tradition of naming city pubs after prominent local figures.

The John Jacques, in Fratton Road, was named after Baron Jean Jacques, chief executive of the Portsea Island Mutual Co-Operative Society between 1945 and 1965.

The pub is housed in a former Co-op building.
